Insider tips on what it takes for your tech startup to succeed

Let’s say you’ve got a great idea for a business. Or an app. Or software startup. You’re confident that it will be a success. You’re confident in your own abilities. You’re ready to make the leap.

But where do you start? And how do you keep going through the highs and the lows you’re bound to experience?

When we started to put together our panel for Vivid Ideas on women who are killing it in creativity and tech, we knew we’d have a vibrant and inspiring conversation on our hands.

And as it turns out – we’ve got something more that that. In our four speakers, we’ve got a virtual masterclass of what you need to do to build and sustain your business – particularly if you come from a creative background. These women have the cheat codes you need to succeed.


For instance, take Jacqui Louez Schoorl, CEO & co-founder of Jaxsta, an app which is set to revolutionise the music industry. Her key themes are persistence, knowing your tech inside out and staying true to your original idea. Her story of sticking with her startup through thick and thin will revitalise your enthusiasm for your big idea.

Then there’s Andrea Lau of Small Multiples. She’s a data maven and her company Small Multiples makes information beautiful for corporate and government clients around Australia. She talks about how when she wanted a job which combined her love of data, tech and design, she had to make one. And now she’s finding that in the developer space, women are in high demand and are increasingly setting the agenda.

Lindsay Rogers, managing director of content agency Chello, comes to the topic from a more creative angle – and she’s got serious business cred. She was Telstra’s Young Business Woman of the Year NSW in 2015 and Mumbrella’s Under 30s Achiever 2016. She knows how to get a creative message through in a world saturated in technology and she’s all about pushing yourself, being open to new ideas and looking after your people while you’re doing it.

And Tara Mckenty started her career in advertising before landing at Google APAC as creative director. She’ll talk about technology being blind, and so understanding the importance of the human element and needing to teach the bots of our world the nuances of human interaction.

She sees a pipeline issue facing women in tech and talks passionately about the need to engage girls in tech from an early age, so they can be the entrepreneurs of the future.

The key message that links these four brilliant businesswomen? They have knowledge from their journeys which they’re keen to share. They know what you need to know… because they’ve done it themselves.
